Today’s focus is…

…on the bravery of whistleblowers like Thomas Drake, whose
NSA team designed a powerful intelligence tool named
Thin Thread. While the tool would have expanded the power
of signals intelligence in the fight against terrorism, at the same
time it would have kept American citizens’ communications
secure and protected from warrantless searches. Drake had for
months sought to bring attention to Constitutional issues
through the proper channels. Due to lack of responsiveness,
he leaked non-classified information to the press. The
government indicted him on weak charges after he and his
colleagues, at wits end, filed a complaint with the Dept. of
Defense about waste and abuse at the National Security Agency.
The charges were dropped after this 60 Minutes program
aired to the public in 2011.
