NOW: Liz Cheney (standing up)
Pathways from September 11 to January 6th
Today’s focus is…
…on Liz Cheney (R-WY), who has stood strong in face of those who would undermine
her career for proximity to power, or for lack of courage. In serving as co-Chair
for the January 6th Committee, she risks losing her job. Her integrity above the
partisanship is a ray of light.
“We are confronting a domestic threat we have never faced before,” Cheney said.
“And that is a former president who is attempting to unravel the foundations of our
constitutional republic. And he is aided by Republican leaders and elected officials
who have made themselves willing hostages to this dangerous and irrational man.”
It’s almost incompressible for older Americans to imagine a day like January 6th,
2021, when a violent crowd would force their way into the Capitol to forcefully
stop the peaceful transfer of power in this country.
What is even more frightening than that day’s events are the dynamic factors
behind those events, some of which seem hidden from view. But there
are signs, and indications and evidence that are pointing heavily is certain
directions. The January 6th Committee aims to uncover those factors. And
thankfully, two officials from the Republican Party has the nerve to follow
their integrity, no matter how much intimidation they would have to endure.
We live in dangerous times. Each generation says it. Ours is justified in
saying it, loud and clear.
